FIFA 19 promises to be an excellent game

The FIFA 19 presentation focused on the acquisition of Champions League rights, the securing of Ronaldo‘s face for the cover, Ultimate Team, and the continued expansion of rights to women’s teams. There was barely a mention of gameplay at all — but we sat down with a FIFA 19 producer and had a few matches, so here’s the skinny.

The passing system suggests EA wants fewer breakneck, end-to-end games which veer from one box to another with a single through-ball. Instead it forces you to consider every move, every possession, to keep an eye on all areas of movement, spread the ball quickly and choose your opportunity to shoot or play that crucial through-ball wisely.

A new layer is added to match tactics, breathing in more action on the pitch. The Dynamic Tactics feature brings in better control of the team's tactics pre-match and during the match. Moreover, new tactical options will also be made available with this release.

Another addition that gamers will enjoy is FIFA tracking your results. If you regularly play against the same person, you can enter this information before the game starts and it will log the result forever. Your mate who claims he always beats you won't have a leg to stand in FIFA 19. Fans of Ultimate Team, Pro Clubs and Manager Mode may be a bit disappointed with the lack of changes. No real improvements appear to have been made.

There’s been a couple of new moves confirmed by the lucky few to play FIFA 19 at EA Play. The first is a running fake shot which, on the version of the game trialed at EA Play, appeared to give your player a massively overpowered boost of pace after executing the skill move (likened to the crazy acceleration after a FIFA 16 ball roll).

Finally, the revolutionary Frostbite game engine is expanded to cover extended areas of the pitch, which allows for better player animations, realistic movements and responsiveness for a more engaging experience. With all the changes, FIFA 19 promises to be an excellent game and is one step closer to offer the perfect football simulation.
