EA and BioWare kept a tight lid on Anthem's exact sale numbers

EA and BioWare kept a tight lid on Anthem's exact sale numbers along with the actual microtransaction revenue. Super Data managed to extract information that $100 was made since the February launch, which is not that much for such a title. Super Data has blown the lid on Anthem's sales figures and while they may not be the exact numbers we would have if EA or BioWare reported them, they are a decent indication of the game's success or lack thereof. According to the analytic website's accounts, Anthem gathered only $100 million in revenue, with $3.5 million being from in-game purchases.

Anthem’s goal is going to be to continue to improve the game to continue to sell box (or digital) copies for an up-front cost. And the more engaged the playerbase is, the more microtransactions they’ll purchase. But right now there’s just very, very little in the store. A tiny amount of armor sets and materials. If the store expands, if new javelins themselves start being sold, that could increase post-launch revenue. Hell, even an Anthem battle pass might not be the worst idea in the world, as I feel like that concept could work in the loot shooter genre, even though it’s never been tried before.

Overall, digital revenue is up by 2% compared to February last year. "Growth came primarily from mobile, which was up 9%”, the article reads. "This more than made up for the 6% decline in premium PC, where the market continues to face a tough comparison against sales of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds last year.” By the way, you can buy cheap Anthem Boosting from mmocs.com, where you can enjoy a 3% discount by using the code " MMOCSVIP ”.

But, we also don't necessarily know what EA expects of Anthem -- and the publisher is the one who determines if a game is a financial success. In February, EA forecast six million sales over the first six weeks, although it didn't attach a revenue figure. So, we don't know how many lifetimes sales Anthem is sitting at, how many hundreds of millions of dollars that has generated, or how EA feels about it all. All these variables and so few answers.

Anthem’s launch has been anything but smooth. While bugs, crashes, and loading times have all been drastically improved, it still feels like there’s a lot missing. As a result, everyone is focused on the free content that will be added in the coming weeks and months. The biggest of these is currently scheduled to arrive in May in the form of a Cataclysm, a "world changing event” that will showcase a longer, more involved, and more challenging Raid-like mission.

As the loot shooter world moves on to discussing the fully-formed Division 2, there's another recently released title for which the prospects don't look as hot. Anthem is still out there trying to chart a path out of the choppy waters it has found itself in, with an unclear future and a ton of questions. BioWare's Casey Hudson just penned a blog post addressing the game as a whole, telling its fans and detractors, essentially, that he knows things have been bad, but they're going to keep working on this game.
